Valentine Catcher – With Free Embroidery Pattern

Christmas is barely behind us and it’s time to start thinking about Valentine’s Day!
We don’t really have any love day traditions at my house yet, but this fun DIY just
might be the start of something!  It’s perfect for holding a valentine note for your

I added a very simple embellishment to the hoop by rubber stamping the outer edge
with x’s and o’s.  How cute is that?!

(the O stamp looks weird because it was still damp from washing. lol)

What I used:

6″ Bamboo Embroidery Hoop (from Michael’s)
Felt in Rose Garden
Cotton Fabric
DMC Embroidery Floss
Tissue Paper
Printed out Embroidery Pattern (download below)

After stamping the edge of my hoop, I set it aside to dry.  I traced the embroidery
pattern onto a piece of tissue paper (tracing paper works too).

Cut the felt heart out of your colour of choice.  Here’s a little inspiration for you,
this palette is: White, Blush, Rose Garden & Carnation.

Next I embroidered the felt heart right through the tissue paper.  I used a pink lazy
daisy stitch for the flowers, lavender straight stitch for the stars and a green stem
stitch for the vines.  When the pattern was finished, I carefully tore away the tissue
paper, using tweezers to get any tiny bits.

I placed my fabric in the hoop.  Using a pick stitch, I stitched across the top of the
heart only, so that there would be an opening to catch valentines.  Then I pick-stitched
the rest of the heart to the centre of the hoop through the fabric.

Little helpers help themselves to the props!  🙂

Now you’ve got a pretty little hiding spot for your Valentines notes!

Happy Crafting!
